By the outbreak of World War II, the biplane was considered an obsolete design, but the necessity of the period meant that biplane aircraft continued in various uses throughout the war. The Stearman Model 75 is a prime example of just such a biplane. Stearman was bought by Boeing in 1934, just after the introduction of the plane, and Boeing continued to produce the aircraft throughout World War II, primarily as a trainer for both the U.S. Army and Navy. The model depicted here is the Army's PT-17 version. Meticulous painted details and hardwood construction will make this a showcase item in any collection.
